Background Information：Moldavite is a natural glass whose formation dates back some 15 million years ago, a meteorite hit the Earth in South Germany (Nördlinger Ries). The event has been recostructed by scientists like this: a meteorite with an approximate diameter of 1,500 m approaches the Earth at the incredible speed of 70,000 km/h - twice as fast as a modern rocket. It hits at full tilt.
The red-hot meteorite melts everything it touches. Soil and rocks are pushed aside or liquefied by the impact. Under pressure, the molten rock is formed into small drops of glass: Moldavite.
Formation: formed by a meteorite impact in Southern Germany (Nördlinger Ries) 15 million years ago
