Remarks:The Prophecy Stone is a unique iron oxide mineral that naturally often shows starburst-like patterns and is commonly found in elongated rod shapes or smooth nodules. It mainly comes from the Farafar White Desert in Egypt.
This stone is a pseudomorph, which means that through geological processes, the original minerals (like marcasite or pyrite) have transformed into a combination of limonite and hematite, but it still keeps the original shape.
Pseudomorph:In mineralogy, a pseudomorph refers to a mineral or mineral compound that shows an atypical shape (crystal system). This happens due to a replacement process, where the appearance and size stay the same, but the original mineral gets replaced by another mineral because of metamorphism, chemical substitution, dissolution and re-filling, structural changes, or incrustation.
In Prophecy Stones, the original minerals were pyrite (cubic crystal system) FeS2 or marcasite (orthorhombic crystal system) FeS2. These minerals were later replaced by hematite (Fe2O3) and limonite (Fe2O3).
